Location and Activities This property is located on highway 88 west between West Jefferson and Trade, Tennessee. The new river house at the peak was built in 1940 on a fifty acre farm. The north fork of the new river runs in front of the house and is stocked bi-weekly with rainbow, brown and brook trout from April 1 through August. The farm is tremendous for hiking, bird watching or just playing in the river. The road contains a gradual incline which is excellent for bikers. Canoeing, tubing and rafting is available thirteen miles from the property in Todd, N.C. Bike rentals are also available in Todd, N.C. at the Todd General Store where riding is done on railroad grade roads. Friday night mountain music and concerts in the park are some of the favorite activities enjoyed by visitors in the Todd region. West Jefferson, located 18 miles away (roughly 30 minutes) offers unique art galleries and antique shops. It contains neat places to dine, play golf, and also an opportunity to visit the church of the frescos. West Jefferson has an annual Christmas in July festival on the fourth of July. The first Saturday in August is the annual Fiddlers Convention, featuring bluegrass and old time country music. 25 minutes on the route towards Boone will take you to Sugar Grove, which features Doc Watson days in July. $5 minutes on the route towards Boone will take you into the city of Boone, home of the back-to-back Division I National Champion Appalachian State Mountaineers. The Appalachian State University Campus and Outdoor Drama Horn are in the west area of Boone. Also located near Boone is the town of Blowing Rock where Shoppes on the Parkway is a popular tourist shopping attraction. Watagua Lake, just 50 minutes to an hour from the property, offers pontoon rental for a day to meet your fishing or pure pleasure needs. Horseback riding is also nearby the Watagua Lake.
